Accuton Speaker Drivers
About Accuton
Accuton drivers are produced by Thiel and Partner in Germany. Their line of ceramic inverted dome drivers have been a very popular series and Madisound now offers them along with the assurance of our usual reliable packaging and quality service.
All Accuton diaphragms are constructed from an ultra hard opalescent sapphire material (corundum) which produces very low distortion and almost no coloration. The rigid domes offer incredible transparency and resolution. While lightweight and thin they are not fragile at all, and are quite durable. In contrast to the membrane material, the surround is a soft fabric which allows smooth and stable "piston-like" operation over the entire frequency range.
The concave dome design offers much better dispersion than most tweeters because it yields wide and uniform energy distribution, considered more important than high on--axis sound pressure. The small "ears" on the tweeters and midrange drivers achieve very efficient resonance damping. The front plate is heavy, acoustically inert zinc instead of plastic or aluminum. All mechanical parts are manufactured to high standards and very close tolerances, usually better than conventional drive units. The tweeters are Ferrofluid-loaded for improved power handling. Crossover design is simplified by the wide bandwidth and low resonance peaks.
Madisound also has the diamond membrane tweeter! The dome consists of synthetic pure diamond, a substance even lighter and harder than the corundum used in the ceramics.
