Peerless FLT100N38-08 4.5" Flat Woofer - 8 ohm
This transducer is a member of the new FLT family. This family features a powerful neodymium-iron-boron magnet, nestled within an innovatice suspension system featuring PlicaTM technology. The flate cone is Rohacell material, skinned with black anodized aluminum. The use of these technologies together results in a ceryshallow form factor, thus making this product ideal for shallow applications such as LCD television soundbars.
With a Qts of 0.69, this driver lends itself to a sealed box design. In 2.2 liters (0.08 cubic feet or 138 cubic inches), the FLT100N38-08 will have a 3dB down point of 120Hz. Since most applications for this speaker will have it placed in or against a wall, you will have a lot of baffle reinforcement to extend the low end. At 6dB it is 90Hz. With one speaker you are at 83dB and with two in parallel you are at 89dB. There are several small tweeters you might match this up with, like the XT25SC90-04, DQ25SC16-04, BC25SC06-04 or the square sided BC25SC55-04.

New high-end, 2-way design featuring the latest Scan-Speak loudspeaker technology. In true DIY spirit, brought to you by Madisound in conjunction with speaker designer Suman Jana. Price is PER PAIR, we have just pictured one set of the drivers. Each standard kit consists of two Scan Speak 18W/8531G woofers, two Discovery D2608/9130 tweeters, and two assembled crossovers with Steel Laminate coil and Clarity SA cap. We do recommend the Goertz inductor upgrade available via the pull-down menus. Accessories, crossover upgrades, and MD38T cabinets are optional.

"I (and my hi-fi fanatic brother in law) have been quite impressed. The highs are well controlled and the bass is more extended than I expected. The imaging is great and while the sound is detailed, it is relaxed. My previous speakers (no name mentioned) were very forward and "in your face" with a tendency to stridency at mid-high frquencies and were tiring to listen to - despite having excellent technical measurements. No such problems with the Rediscovery units I am happy to say. We have played them with and without a sub-woofer in the system. At reasonably high sound levels the bass is fine without a sub - so the baffle compensation really does a good job. At lower levels though the sub provides for a better bottom end as would be expected. We have thrown just about every music genre at the speakers and found no weakness. They have been up and running for less than a week at this point so I guess these impressions are only initial ones. I will update you again in a month or so after I have spent a lot more time in the listening chair. My amp is 55W per channel. I was worried whether it could drive the Rediscovery speakers but that has not proven to be a problem. At this stage I am very happy with the kit and the value for money it provides. My further listening has not changed my views, rather they have reinforced them. Female vocals are particularly impressive (eg Cassandra Wilson "Blue light 'til Dawn, Patricia Barber Mythologies."
