the easiest way is to build a sealed box. solid (say 25mm thick and well braces. then use a driver designed for a sealed box.

eg, a 50-60 litre box using the Peerless 830845 and a plate amp

here is an eg I have just completed.

google for Thiele-Small parameters and try to understand what they are used for

download a free box modeling software like Unibox which can predict subwoofer performance based on Thiele-Small (TS) parameters provided by manufacturer of woofer

then look for woofers that have TS paramters listed. all good woofers list TS parameters. if a woofer doesnt list TS paramters - its not good. if it does list the parameters - plug them into Unibox or similar software and it will tell you what kind of box you can build for that woofer and what kind of performance you can expect.

once you settle on a woofer and box design just make sure that you build a stiff box.

i also like the idea of having controls in the front

i had level controls on the front of JBL monitors ... very convenient

    yep its fun stuff.....

Just have to remember to use a quality auto spray type undercolour. The first try on this was a cheapo can, and must have had the same solvent as the Crackle paint or something .... YUCK !!!

notice you are in Sydney.. nice to have another Aussie around the place.
