How to clean tweeter and if dust can affect it...
Hi there, a little annoying problem:
I like my SB29RDC-C000-4 tweeters, but they are terrible "dust collectors", mostly the "ring" which seem to be coated with some kind of sticky stuff.
And if it was only the dust i could live with that, but not so long ago i used my router nearby and they collected a lot of white MDF dust as well.
It doesn't look nice...
Tried to clean them with soft brush to no effect. I'm hoping maybe good microfiber cloth will help (will buy and try it soon)...
The main question - does it affect the sound? Maybe when it will collect a lot of dust?
Anyone had any luck in cleaning similar tweeters with "sticky" stuff?

If it's just a ring and not part of a dome....maybe a piece of painters tape gently applied will help remove the dust! For routing ops., keep your goodies away from the dust etc.

I suspect thats ferrofluid, which acts as a head dissipated and changes magnetic flux, and dampens the driver. If you google cleaning / replacing ferrofluid you will find various articles. I suspect altering it will affect the speakers response, and if the dust gets in the wrong place....same problem. It might be time for plastic tweezers, magnifying glass and patience.

I use painters blue tape on my silk domes, not sure if it would work on tack dome.

Pick up a container of "silly putty", I assume they still make it- I have used it many times to do the exact same thing you described. The silly putty does NOT leave any residue, put picks up all the debris/dust/ and even will pick up the shavings of steel wool if you ever accidentally allowed some to get near a tweeter ( yes, I did that once, thats how I know it works). Just be careful to not press it too hard, just dab it lightly and the tweeter will look like new.
