RBR-KIT, the “Recession Buster Reference” Kit, Pair

Madisound is pleased to introduce the limited edition Recession Buster Reference Kit. This 2-way speaker kit utilizes a Scan-Speak Revelator woofer and SB Acoustics Ring Dome tweeter.

Along with Clearwave Loudspeaker Design, we bring you an unprecedented value in the form of a premium speaker kit. Never before, and perhaps never again, will we be able to offer this high level of performance at such an attractive price. Kit price is less than the regular cost of two Scan-Speak woofers! Quantity is limited.

Having received a special batch of the famous Scan-Speak Revelator 5.5” woofers, we just had to put them to good use. Tweeter selection was crucial, finding the perfect balance between performance and price to mate with this fantastic woofer. The new SB Acoustics Ring Dome tweeter was the perfect fit. We consider this one of, if not the best tweeters available for under $100 - and it is less than half of that price!

Jed Kunz of Clearwave Loudspeaker Design was up to the task of the design work. Jed has been a long time and valuable contributor to the DIY speaker building community and we are pleased to have him on board for this project. His crossover design keeps the parts count relatively low while assuring optimal integration between the drivers. The result is a very smooth and clean response.

Detailed information on the RBR-Kit can be found here on the Clearwave website. Included in the documentation are the box plans, crossover schematic, a variety of measurement graphs, and listening impressions for the speaker system.

Crossovers come fully assembled on a 103B circuit board. This will fit through the woofer hole in the instance your enclosure does not have an access panel or removable baffle.

We use Clarity SA Caps and Mundorf Metal Oxide Resistors within the tweeter circuit. The woofer circuit uses a Sidewinder 16 AWG Air Core Inductor and Clarity PX Cap. This represents a high quality parts match to these drivers, while keeping the kit price within our sub $400 goal. There is one upgrade option, which uses Clarity ESA Caps in the tweeter circuit and Goertz Copper Foil 14 AWG Inductor in the woofer circuit.

The Recession Buster Reference system can be built in either a ported or sealed enclosure. If you are looking for the best bass response, build the ported design. Expect amazing bass from this compact woofer, enough to classify this as a full range speaker system. Should your application require integration with a subwoofer or a smaller footprint, build the sealed box design. Don't overlook that there are output and power handling limitations inherent with any 5.5" 2-Way system. It will not fill a concert hall or bring the walls of your house down. This is a true high-fidelity system that will provide adequate and enjoyable output in a typical home listening environment.
